Empower and Yokogawa Boost District Cooling Efficiency

In a significant development for the district cooling sector, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower) and Yokogawa Electric Corporation have strengthened their collaboration to enhance efficiency and sustainability in district cooling systems. This partnership is poised to bring about transformative changes in the industry, aligning with the UAE's ambitious Net Zero 2050 Strategy.

During a recent meeting at Empower's headquarters in Dubai, H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, welcomed a high-level delegation from Yokogawa. The discussions centered around strengthening cooperation and exploring future partnerships in advanced district cooling solutions and technologies. Empower's achievements were highlighted, including the signing of 86 new contracts in the first half of the year, which increased its contracted capacity to 1.86 million refrigeration tons (RT) and expanded its connected capacity to over 1.6 million RT. The number of buildings served also rose to 1,684.

This collaboration has already yielded impressive results in a short span. Yokogawa was awarded a contract to upgrade the legacy Building Management Systems (BMS) at Empower's plants with advanced technologies. A joint optimization pilot study at one of Empower's plants demonstrated substantial energy savings through Yokogawa's system implementation. Additionally, a pilot project for testing wireless vibration monitoring systems in the Palm Jumeirah plants was successfully completed, enhancing asset reliability for rotating equipment.
