In a significant move at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2026, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC, known as Empower, has reinforced its partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This strategic meeting with the Cool Coalition team underscores Empower's commitment to advancing sustainable cooling solutions globally.

Led by H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, the meeting with Lily Riahi, Head and Global Coordinator of UNEP's Cool Coalition, focused on several pivotal topics. These included strengthening cooperation to promote district cooling worldwide, supporting UNEP's various events and initiatives, and exploring avenues to raise awareness about sustainable cooling solutions.

Empower, established in its current form as a public joint stock company in 2022, has been a leader in district cooling services. Their integrated end-to-end service model, which covers design, build, operation, maintenance, metering, billing, and customer service, was discussed as a sustainable business model during the meeting. This aligns with the Cool Coalition’s Global Cooling Pledge, launched at COP28, hosted by the UAE.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of international partnerships in accelerating the adoption of sustainable cooling solutions. District cooling is seen as a vital solution in supporting global efforts to address climate change challenges and achieve Net Zero targets. With 72 countries and over 80 partners joining the Global Cooling Pledge within 18 months, the collaboration aims to expand and accelerate the adoption of sustainable cooling solutions globally.
